To consolidate and integrate the party’s policies on China, Su is said to be planning to designate Hsieh as head of the reinstated committee, which was merged with the Department of International Affairs in August 2007.The reinstated department is not the Committee, which is going to be rebooted at a later time, but the Department of China Affairs, according to corrections that arrived in my mailbox from those in the know. The idea that Su is going to appoint Hsieh is purely rumor and has no basis in fact, I am assured.
